“Any one of us can suddenly find themselves in food insecurity circumstances. For most, it only takes one paycheck gone. People living on a financial razor's edge reduce the cost spent on food as the easiest means to an end. Fall off the edge and suddenly there's no food. Thankfully there is help from The Food Drive.” ~ No-Cost Grocery Recipient
Our Story
Jana & Tony Gimenez started The Food Drive in 2020 during the pandemic because their family wanted to do something about hunger in a meaningful way in their own community. They were inspired to take action by Bread of Life, a food access program in Malden, where they volunteered for meal preparation at Thanksgiving and delivered groceries during the pandemic. With a team of over 150 dedicated volunteers, The Food Drive has grown from partnering with one food pantry and one grocery store to working with thirty recipient organizations and thirty food rescue donors. The Food Drive’s business model is small, local, and flexible so that recipients receive food the same day as the donation, and so that rescue donors support their neighbors.
The program’s logo was designed by their then-13 year old daughter Ell.
